The Tunku Abdul Rahman Marine Park:

The Tunku Abdul Rahman Marine Park is a cluster of islands comprising Gaya island, Manukan island, Mamutik island, Sapi island & Sulug island. It only take 10 - 20 minutes speed boat ride from the Kota Kinabalu Jetty. The 5 islands of the Marine Park are characterised by shallow waters, sumptuous coral garden & all boast splendid white sandy beaches.

The reefs lies in the shallow waters with little current makes it an ideal location for novice divers. Moreover, the diverse & sometimes rare marine creatures make it also an interesting dive location for experienced divers & underwater photographers.

A good variety of marine life can be found such as Scorpion Fish, Blue-Spotted Rays, Cuttle Fish, Mantis Shrimps & the occasional Green or Hawksbill Turtle amongst the sandy sea bed. Rare creatures such as Harlequin Ghost Pipe Fish & Mandarin Fish also can be found with the help of local dive guide. During the cooler months (Nov-Feb), plankton blooms attract krill which in turn attract Whale Sharks, the world's largest fish. At times, the density of the krill can be so thick in these murky conditions underwater encounters with these colossal animals. It can be exciting as they suddenly appear out of the gloom.

To dive in the Marine Park, must contact one of the local dive centers in Kota Kinabalu who also offered a full variety of PADI courses ranging from Discover Scuba to Instructor.

The Tunku Abdul Rahman Islands Description:

GAYA ISLAND
